Questions about upholstery extraction
Can a soaked couch be saved?
For a careful restoration, often yes if the water was clean and we get to it within a day. A solid hardwood frame is the main requirement.
How do you decide what is worth saving?
We look at the frame first, then the filling, then the fabric. A good frame justifies drying, foam can be replaced, and fabric can usually be cleaned.
Why does furniture get put up on blocks?
As we plan the work, legs standing in water keep wicking moisture up into the frame and fabric. Blocking also stops metal feet rusting and wood legs bleeding stain into your floor.
Can wet cushion foam be dried, or does it need replacing?
For a clear next step, high resiliency foam extracts and dries well on a rack with air on both sides. Down filling and layered cushions are much harder and often hold odor.
How long does upholstery drying take?
As we plan the work, cushioned pieces commonly need two to four days on a drying rack. Tight backed furniture and heavy frames run longer.
What about a mattress that got wet?
As we plan the work, light surface wetting from clean water can sometimes be extracted and dried. Water deeper than about an inch into the layers usually means replacement.
Should the work happen at my house or off site?
For a clear next step, on site extraction and rack drying is cheaper and keeps your furniture with you. An off site cleaning plant is better for heavy soil, delicate fabrics and area rug immersion washing.
