Contents moved and blocked off the floor

Does wet carpet padding always have to be replaced?

For a careful restoration, not always, but usually. Clean water caught within a day can sometimes be dried in place by floating the carpet.

Why does the pad fail when the carpet survives?

As we plan the work, cushion is porous and open cell, so it fills with water and holds it against the deck. Carpet is a woven face on a backing and releases water much faster.

Can my carpet be saved if the pad is dead?

For a careful restoration, very often yes. We detach the carpet from the tack strip rather than cutting it, then dry both faces while it is folded back.

What kind of pad should I replace it with?
